Handling Change
Being told that your job is redundant can come as a great shock. You now have to face a very real change in your life. Often, with a change such as losing your job, you can feel a sense of loss of control. Things are no longer as they were. We have all to come to terms with a different set of circumstances. We can even feel quite helpless and powerless to be able to do anything constructive about our new state of affairs.
"We at Corporate Alchemy have helped thousands of individuals to understand the reactions that naturally happen when we experience change.
We all handle change differently and some of us will move quickly through and find our feet again. Others can remain "stuck" at one point and find it difficult to move on. Attending this workshop will help you to take control of the situation and to influence what happens next."
In life there are a great many things about which we have no control whatsoever – i.e. the current economic climate. But we have total direct control over ourselves, our attitude, approach and actions. This one day workshop will enable you to focus on those aspects that you can influence and control. You will then move from a position of powerlessness to one of powerfulness.

How it Happened
Penny Sophocleous the CEO of Corporate Alchemy and Roz Morris, Managing Director of TV News London were discussing the current economic environment and the variation in support given to individuals whose jobs were being declared redundant. We felt keenly the pain and confusion of those now out of work. We wanted to help.
It seemed obvious that there was a real need for a process to help people think through, plan and execute all the various components of getting back to work. So we each called upon several of our experts who achieve brilliant results in each of their specialist areas, brought them together with the intention of designing one event where participants can gather all the tools and think through their strategy for re-employment. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to access their specialist expertise at specially discounted rates following this event.
Getting clear on who you are, what motivates you, what drives you to succeed? You will empower yourself through clarifying your goals, your innate desires and long term aims. You will undergo some self assessments that will strengthen your self-awareness, uncover your skill-set and help you to market yourself more effectively.
Know where to find new job opportunities. Learn how to market your CV using the Internet. Know what a great job, culture and company looks like for you! Know what your personal gifts, contributions and impact can be on others and the range of transferable skills that you will be taking to your new role.

How do you make your CV sell you successfully to a busy employer or agency? How can you make your CV stand out, without ruining your credibility?
You will find out what a great CV should look like and begin editing your own. You will take away several options for what your CV should include and how it should look.

There’s nothing more likely to shatter your confidence in the interview than being asked a question and not knowing how to answer it. Or worse, you answer instinctively, only to realise later that you haven’t really done yourself justice.
At the workshop, you will understand what the recruiter is looking to learn about you. You will save time by finding out how to prepare the answers to classic “difficult” questions and even prepare some answers of your own on the day.
Learn how to enter the interview with confidence knowing you have sensible answers to difficult questions.

Selection tests and personality questionnaires are common these days and they are more frequently being used online.
If you’re not used to doing tests, or have never been through an Assessment Centre process, then it can be daunting.
You will have some practice and be able to present yourself better at an Assessment Centre. You will reduce the trepidation of taking tests by becoming familiar with the processes involved. By understanding how your results are likely to come out, you can prepare answers to the obvious questions that may arise.
This section of the day is intended to help you to be better prepared.

Learn how to maximise your personal appearance for professional environments. Your dress, grooming and body language are the first things noticed about you, so you need to make sure that they say the right thing.
A key aspect of obtaining a job is to have a good personal image when you meet potential employers. You will acquire the skills to portray yourself at your best, giving consistent messages through your look and behaviour.
Take away a wealth of tips on etiquette and manners appropriate to the business environment, especially interviews and business lunches.
Discover which is your unique image from a range of styles and how best to dress for success, helping you to stand out for all the right reasons. You will truly know how to create an authentic and positive impression.
First impressions are lasting impressions – you want that first impression to be not just a good one, but also a great one. So it is vitally important to recognise the organisation’s culture and their expectation of appropriate dress, so we will give you the knowledge to create a credible professional appearance for the context, without losing your individual style.

Discover how your body language and vocal impact are related. You will take away exercises to raise your energy and positivity to make a big impact. You will also have an opportunity to learn a routine for relaxing, energising and focusing before an important interview or meeting.
Identify key 'tension areas' in your body and how they affect your voice and presence. Keeping tension in different parts of your body results not only in you giving negative non-verbal messages but also affects the quality of your voice. By adopting these top tips/rules for good posture and vocal usage, you will feel empowered, grounded, confident and professional.

You will find allies, potential friends and supporters to stimulate your job search and inspire you to continued action. With them, you will be able to share knowledge, contacts and information. "Penny has helped me squarely face and own up to interpersonal issues holding me back, both at work and at home. Penny's gentle questioning style is disarming. She has the ability to confront hard issues without causing offence … she was also there with practical tools and ways to get me on track to much healthier productive relationships." "It has strengthened my ambitions, goals and career aspirations. My confidence has shot up! I no longer have any fears. .. Excellent! I would recommend it to anyone wishing to change their daily approach. A must for high achievers and those willing to change." "I certainly feel more in control of my work, my team and my relationship with my boss. Although I feel there is still more work to do to increase my standing with senior colleagues, my personal impact has definitely raised a significant level. This has been noted by my boss, plus I can ‘feel’ the difference." |

Shirley Huntington
Shirley is one of the few individuals qualified by the British Psychological Society to Full Level B in occupational testing and provides psychometric assessment support to government and corporate organisations. This includes developing and operating Assessment Centres, so she really does know what client companies are looking for from job applicants. She is also a business coach to senior executives who require assistance with career direction. |
“The sessions that we had have certainly been of value to me and much of what was said is still with me and is helping me. One thing is clear to me, the fact that I do feel more confident and able to manage (or stand on my own two feet) is, in no small part, down to the help and advice that you have given me. Thanks again for your help”
“Shirley took my 18 year old daughter through some self-assessment and personality questionnaires. As a result she now has a much clearer picture of what interests her and which kind of career direction she will take. It was so much more valuable for her to do this with someone other than her mother!" Maths teacher and mother of three |
Angela Marshall
Angela Marshall is a leading image consultant. After a successful career in banking, she founded her business, Appearance Management, in 1995. She has made a unique contribution to our understanding of image with her two books, one for men and one for women called “Being Truly You – Discovering Your Own Unique Wardrobe Personality”. Unusually, Angela advises as many men as women. Her client list includes senior executives in blue chip companies, professionals from the law and accountancy specialism, as well as politicians. The way we dress gives out powerful messages about ourselves and Angela highlights how valuable this knowledge is in the business sphere. She also presents at conferences and sales events, principally to raise awareness of the impact of each employees’ personal image has on the corporate brand. |
“Angela covered all areas of appearance and its impact when doing business. Her presentation is both informative and entertaining. Everyone listening on the day learnt something and I have seen a marked improvement in turn out since the event.” “I recently attended a presentation that Angela gave, and found it extremely informative. Angela injects a real enthusiasm into her work, and she combines this with a personalised approach. It makes you realise that she is passionate about what she does, and this can only have a positive effect on her client work.” “A very informative course, covering a wide range of subjects.” |
Susan Heaton Wright
Susan has been an opera singer performing professionally as a soloist throughout UK, France, Italy, Spain and USA, and a professional actress, prior to working in the business sector. She uses her experiences, knowledge, and vocal expertise to train teams and individuals in a range of vocal and communication skills. She shows how to use the voice effectively through her personal experience as a performer, to enable them to communicate effectively using their voices in a number of situations. She uses physical and imaginative techniques to help develop the vocal capabilities of individuals, set goals, support and develop self evaluation. This enables individuals to overcome ‘stage fright’ before public speaking and presentations. She helps clients gain self-knowledge of their voice and to fulfil their potential in using it to greatest effect. She has also produced CD recordings on vocal and physical preparation for Presentations and Public Speaking, vocal health and creating a voice that audiences want to listen to. Her clients include directors of multi-national companies, senior civil servants, directors of SMEs, ambitious graduates and managers wishing to make an impression with their voice in business. Susan is a Women’s Enterprise Ambassador for EEDA. |
“When I saw the plan of the day, I knew it was going to be good, but this surpassed all expectations. You were a star! Thank you!” "Susan was great for me. Not only did she have all the technical and practical knowledge to improve the impact of my voice, but her supportive style got us working well together right from the start." “Right at the start Susan made me feel comfortable, she has a warm and friendly style, she is also very humorous and that certainly helped in encouraging me to try the exercises that took me out of my comfort zone. So through using these skills and her very thorough knowledge of voice she was able to encourage me to take a risk and try a variety of vocal techniques. I discovered I had a voice!” “I have always had difficulty speaking loudly and clearly, for example when giving presentations, or even in conversation in noisy environments. Using Susan’s techniques, I am on the way to overcoming this problem and can already project my voice with much less effort. Susan created an atmosphere where her students were able to try out the techniques without feeling self-conscious. It was a very enjoyable as well as a useful way to spend a day.” |
